Greetings from New York City...

Flat Stanley visited one of Miss Hilldrup's friends from college and had several adventures in New York City.


The ferry ride over to the city from Weehawken - Flat Stanley loved the ferry - as do I :)

NYTW is where I freelance a lot - it is also a famous theater where Rent and Once etc first started. The Rest are pictures from Central Park.

In this one I hit Times Square and The Met. Stanley saw the famous painting of George Washington crossing the Delaware River and a Winslow Homer along with some knight's armor.

Greetings from Colorado...

Flat Stanley took a trip to Grand Junction, Colorado.

Dear Nate,

            Thank you for sharing Flat Stanley with us.  We hope he had fun in Colorado.  Flat Stanley read our newspaper, The Daily Sentinel, to learn about skiing, and the Colorado National Monument.  He was able to see the Monument from our front yard. 

            One day, he went bowling with me.  Later that evening, he went to a great band concert with our grandsons at the Grand Junction High School. 

            Flat Stanley took a trip with us across the Rocky Mountains to Denver, the capital of Colorado.  He rode through the Eisenhower Tunnel.  Then he drove through a spring snowstorm.  He went shopping, to restaurants, and doctor’s office and a hospital. 

            Grand Junction is in the western part of Colorado.  See if you can find it on the map I sent.  We have several nice city parks.  Main Street downtown is famous for Art on the Corner.  Colorado Mesa University is also in Grand Junction.  We also have the Grand Junction Rockies baseball team. 

            Our area is known for its delicious produce.  We have many orchards of apples, apricots, cherries, peaches, pears, and plums.  There are also many grape vineyards and at least 15 wineries near here.

            Colorado is a beautiful state.  We have about 300 sunny days a year.  Everyone enjoys lots of outdoor activities – hiking, mountain biking, rafting, skiing, hunting and fishing.  Tourism is one of the major industries in the state as well as oil and gas drilling, and coal mining.  The Denver Broncos are our professional football team. They played in the Super Bowl this winter, but unfortunately they did not win. 

            Good luck to you and your classmates with your Flat Stanley project.  What fun to see where all of them have traveled.  You are lucky to have a nice teacher like Miss Hilldrup.  We have known her since she was not much older than you are now.  She has visited us in Colorado.  Ask her about her trip. 

            We hope Flat Stanley has a safe trip home.

Greetings from England...

Flat Stanley had a lovely time visiting Ian, Miss Hilldrup's friend from England.

Dear Camron, 

Thank you for sending Flat Stanley to me. He arrived safe in England and loved being here. 

I live in a town called Orpington which is in the County of Kent. It's very green and has a lot of lovely countryside. Orpington is also a borough of London so I live very close to the big City. 

On Flat Stanley's first adventure he came to work with me. I work on a very popular TV show made by the BBC Called Eastenders. It's a Drama set in London with lots of diverse characters and lots of drama happening all the time. 

Flat Stanley was really lucky and got to have a quick ride on a British Police Car. 

He also met the postman and had a quick photo by his Royal Mail van. 

I then took Flat Stanley with me to Greenwich. 

Greenwich is world famous as the traditional location of the Prime Meridian, on which all Coordinated Universal Time is based. The Prime Meridian running through Greenwich and the Greenwich Observatory is where the destination Greenwich Mean Time, or GMT began, and on which all world times are based. In 2012, Greenwich was listed as a top ten global destination by Frommer's– the only UK destination to be listed.

Greenwich was one of six host boroughs for the 2012 London Olympics and events were held at the Royal Artillery Barracks (Shooting), Greenwich Park (Equestrian) and The O₂-former Millennium Dome (Gymnastics; Basketball).

To mark the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II, Greenwich became a Royal Borough on 3 February 2012, due to its historic links with the Royal Family. 

Flat Stanley with the O2 in the background used to be the millennium dome. Lots of concerts are held inside the dome. 

Across the river you can see the City of London. 

Canary Wharf is a major business district located in Tower Hamlets, London, United Kingdom. It is one of London's two main financial districts – along with the traditional City of London – and contains many of the UK's tallest buildings, including the second-tallest, One Canada Square. 

The Royal Naval College, Greenwich, was a Royal Navy training establishment between 1873 and 1998, providing courses for naval officers. It was the home of the Royal Navy's Staff College, which provided advanced training for officers.

It is now The University of Greenwich where many courses are available including music, you can hear the students practicing during the day. Flat Stanley loved it. 

Flat Stanley almost got fired out of a cannon. 

He found a Sir Walter Raleigh statue.  Sir Walter Raleigh was an English aristocrat, writer, poet, soldier, politician, courtier, spy, and explorer. He is also well known for popularizing tobacco in England. 

We then went to the Cutty Sark, it's a huge Ship. flat Stanley wanted to set sail but it's not in the sea anymore. 

The Cutty Sark is a British Clipper ship. Built on the Clyde in 1869 for the Jock Willis Shipping Line, she was one of the last tea clippers to be built and one of the fastest, coming at the end of a long period of design development which halted as sailing ships gave way to steam propulsion.

The ship was badly damaged by fire on 21 May 2007 while undergoing conservation. The vessel has since been restored and reopened to the public. 

 Flat Stanley then paid a quick visit to the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. 

The Royal Observatory, Greenwich in London played a major role in the history of astronomy and navigation, and is best known as the location of the Prime meridian. It is situated on a hill in Greenwich Park, overlooking the River Thames. 

Every place on Earth is measured in terms of its distance east or west from the Greenwich Meridian. The line itself divides the eastern and western hemispheres of the Earth, just as the Equator divides the northern and southern hemispheres.

Flat Stanley's adventure in England is almost over. He found a lovely London phone box and made a quick call, before being sent back to his school in America.
